Exceeding potential: Feeding the 5000 & Activities Week
Last Sundays Gospel from Luke recounted the Feeding of the Five Thousand (Lk 9:11-17). In this well-known extract, the Twelve Apostles were astounded that Jesus blessing enabled them to feed the huge crowd with only five loaves of bread and two fish, exclaiming that all ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets. We often underestimate how much is possible and what we are truly capable of until we stretch our boundaries and are willing to take responsible risks.
All students next week will be asked to move outside their comfort zones in some part of the amazing range of experiences within Activities Week. I look forward to joining each year level in one of their experiences at some stage as they meet our 2025 theme that the prime purpose of education is to help students exceed what they think is their potential (Hattie & Zierer, 2018).
